Kiln Firing
HomeTileArt.com Ceramic Kiln Firing Process
HomeTileArt.com uses a high-intensity heat kiln to bake our ceramic tile products. These are done in groups a time and kiln-fired as a set.
We start out by cutting precise pieces of premium white ceramic tiles and allowing them to dry properly for around two days. They are then neatly stacked inside the kiln for the first firing. The layers are separated by shelving and this is repeated until the kiln is filled to capacity. The appropriate firing times and temperatures are then set on the kiln. HomeTileArt.com uses a bisque type firing process for the initial firing to produce white-fired tiles. This usually involves a kiln temperature of 1750 degrees Fahrenheit and allowing the blank tiles to bake for about 18 hours.
Next, the blank tiles are carefully removed and set aside safely allowing them to cool completely. They are then wiped and cleaned with a damp sponge to remove impurities such as dust.
The artist will then be allowed to tube-line and paint the blank tile with rich over-glazes. After, we let it rest and then stack it right back into the kiln.

This time, we are kiln firing to preserve the ceramic painting forever. The kiln is fired at 2000-2300 degrees Fahrenheit for around 24 hours. This insures that the glaze is melted properly and evenly. The kiln is allowed to cool for 1-2 days before the new ceramic art pieces are carefully taken out.

The final preparation step involves gluing a black velvet backing to the ceramic tile and attaching a hanger hook as well as a retractable stand. It is at last, hand-packaged into a nice gift box and shipped to your front door.
